Out My Mind, Just In Time by Erykah Badu |
Heading back to the UK on a trip away. I stopped in a duty-free mini Boots to see if I could lighten my wallet and my mood. Ultimately, just like my trip, I found little solace in fixing the heavy cobwebs of my past and I didn't get to offload the cash either. In the end, I bought this "travel exclusive" on card. Intuitively, I knew that the deal wasn't that great but, I wanted to buy something (my first duty-free purchase) and so I did.
I wasn't so keen on the shades or the price (£34?) but, it was at the very least something to look forward to, as a small memento of my little escapade away ... I'm not that much of a beige/pink lipstick person but, I was willing and ready for something new.
The set comes with 3 full-sized lipstick, each lipstick has a different finish - matte, amplified creme, and lustre. I'm not sure if the shades were chosen because of their popularity or that they were just seen as pretty together? If you've never tried MAC lipsticks before I suggest that you do. The brand and their products are iconic, they will have a shade and texture/finish you'll fall in love with. The only folk who will want to avoid MAC are those who are against animal testing (MAC sells in China, China tests all products on animals - MAC says they do not test on animals though) or you're looking for Vegan centered "organic" products.
See Sheer - described by MAC as a grapefruit pink (lustre). The formula is designed to be lightweight, has a sheer to medium coverage with a lustrous finish. I think the descriptions are perfect. I would never have chosen this shade on my own but, I do like it. For a little definition, I'd use a plummy lip liner to border my lips.
Velvet Teddy - described by MAC as a deep-toned beige (matte). The formula is designed to be creamy offering full coverage and a no-shine matte finish. Velvet Teddy is very iconic and reminds me of 2010's nude lips. This is a shade loved and worn by all skin tones. I'm not particularly deeply into nude lips but paired with a dark brown lip liner (MAC Chestnut lip liner) it's a great nude on dark skin where you can play around with your lip shape.
Brick-O-La - described by MAC as a mid-toned berry with an ultra-creamy formula (amplified cream), bold full coverage pay-off and a semi-lustrous finish. This lipstick is very pigmented and once again not a shade or finish that was on my radar but, I like it! Similar to See Sheer I would line my lips to add some definition.
Overall, I think this shades work nicely on dark skin. I can wear them without a lip liner but using lip liners, adds a little definition. I have so many lip liners so I will be doing a lip liner post (wish my lips luck) soon enough to you'll know what I mean. I'm really glad I allowed myself to get out of my comfort zone and that summed up my overall mood and my trip. I guess everything happens for a reason.
Have you bought anything from the "duty-free" before?
I hope you're all well, stay blessed and be safe!
