Anais Anais by Cacharel EDT

There is no denying this fragrance is a floral. A white floral full of blossoming blooms and optimism. I can imagine that Anais Anais smells like how a flower picker in the hot mid-day of summer would smell in the fields, grassy green, heady, warm and very very floral. There is something raw about it, something timeless everlasting but old. It's a rich scent that when alive lives but, at its death (aka dry down) fades into a blur of soapy musk. For a long while I imagined what Anais Anais would smell like, I adored the pastel bottle and the allure of its simplicity. Please note that this admiration came from not even a tweeb yet ... nevertheless in my mid teenage years I was finally able to smell it up close and personal and yes even spray it ... At first sniff my illusions were obliterated, I hated it ... it smelt so strong, so suffocating ... life seemed a little more bitter after that (only joking). Bear in my mind, my most adored fragrance at the time was Escada Tropical Punch (although I never ended up purchasing the limited edition :( ... but I might add my friends at the time disliked it but I adored what I thought was a passion fruit bubbling scent - still regret not getting it). I digress ...

However, I decided to revisit this scent lately (not in my teens any more) and I fell for it. I loved how it made me envision being surrounded by flowers almost engulfed ... peacefully alone in a beautiful floral wilderness. So if you're not into floral's, I can safely assume you won't, I repeat you won't like this. Although, when Anais Anais dries down on my skin it becomes a woody grassy scent that is very earthy but still sweet. I think its a comforting scent which all ages can wear (if they like floral scents). I know many people have fixed views on this perfumes ... some see this as a nostalgic youthful (pubescent girl) scent because their mother or boyfriends bought this for them in the 80s-90s or they see this as an old ladies scent because of its strong floral chords - note I'm not renouncing these opinions/experiences/judgements. Personally, I think this scent suits a young (yes I might say that again ... young) lady like me just fine. Besides,  on me Anais Anais heavy floral are prone to dispersing into to a very light and soft sweet oak moss scent which is pleasant but by no means super powerful on me.

So from hate to love, Anais Anais is a scent that with time I have changed my whole opinion on. I adore it so much I even forked out bought the EDP because, I nearly finished my first bottle of the EDT and wanted to see if the EDP would be any stronger and lasting one me ... and it is but there are differences (I'll review it later on) :). I think Anais Anais will be in my collection for some time ... Anais Anais truly is a classic fragrance which shows personality and changeability on its wearer and the emotions it creates.

Lastly I'll just say this ... Anais Anais can also be quite a romantic scent which has a strong feminine and almost heroine quality to it that adds strength but also sensuality to the mix. If you've seen any of the Anais Anais ads (ad1, ad2) you'll notice its always about young women, frolicking in wood areas with her friends almost like the nymphs from John Waterhouses 1896 painting (yet there are times when said young woman is alone but, still with flowers outdoors  ad3). I think this fragrance is not so much about alluring others but being one with your own allure, the allure of youth - and what better way to represent that than by using the very thing which has both beauty and fragility like our human selves ... flowers. I think ...

Well anyway, that's it the cats out of the bag, I really like this scent, I know its not very in fashion and I cannot attest to people complimenting me on the scent (my sisters don't really like it - one complains its too floral, the other says its quite manly one me - my guess is its the oak moss) but I adore it and that's really is what counts :).
