Rouge Noir (857) is the latest permanent(!) addition to the existing range of Chanel's Illusion D'Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadows. It's described as a "shimmering black red", but I think it looks more plummy when it's applied on the eye lids. It's released as part of their Rouge Noir Absolument Christmas Collection for 2015 (see my picks here that has links to reviews and swatches) - a colour story that celebrates 20 years of the iconic Rouge Noir (18) nail polish.
Below is Rouge Noir's multi-coloured micro-shimmers captured in low light.
Comparison Swatches
Below are comparison swatches of Rouge Noir with Diapason and Ébloui on my medium, olive (~NC30-35) skin tone. They are photographed indoors using a strobe.
Below - the swatches photographed without a strobe to capture the iridescence.
Illusion d'Ombres have a truly unique texture. It's soft and cushiony or like an airy mousse in the jar then when you apply it onto the skin, it feels super, super silky smooth and glides on effortlessly. The pigmentation is easily built up for more intensity. Two to three layers is sufficient for me to wear it for an evening out. I find the best way to apply it with is a clean finger. Use a gentle tapping motion to easily build a layer of colour and a sweeping motion to blend. These blend super easily. You can use a clean finger to blend out any edges. It's such a quick, no-fuss, easy to use eye shadow, but the finish and effect it leaves on the eyes is sophisticated and beautiful - as if you'd spent ages applying it when it's really just taken a minute...maybe two at the most!
The formula is designed to be used as an eye shadow or as an eye liner. You can use it on its own, or as a base for powder eye shadows to give a much more intense colour pay off (pairs perfectly well with the gorgeous Signe Particulier Eyeshadow Quad (from the same Christmas collection reviewed and swatched here), or as a light layer on top of other eye shadows to give a highlight or iridescent top coat.
It leaves a beautiful, subtle, multi-coloured sparkly finish, but not as shimmery as most of the other Illusion d'Ombres. So, if you don't like the super sparkly (albeit not glittery) ones, you may prefer Rouge Noir's finish.

Overall
I don't believe I have anything like Rouge Noir in my makeup collection. It's such a gorgeous, dark plummy shade. If you want something that easily gives a statement or dramatic look without much effort then this is a must-have. It gives a smokey effect and almost looks 20s even! I really like it. :) Definitely get this if you're also getting the Signe Particulier Eyeshadow Quad from the same collection!
Hope this was helpful. :)
Thanks for stopping by. Hope you're having a great weekend! ^_^ xo
